Student looking at pieces from ceramics and AP Studio Art.

On Tuesday, April 23, there was a gallery in room 6-2 showcasing various works of art created by students from various classes. The showcase went on during lunch and during 5:30-7:00 p.m. that evening. Additionally the showcase was open for lunch everyday for the rest of that week. Pretty much every art class had works on display.

The general theme of the show was showcasing cultures that art students connected to in some way. In the middle of the room there was a table which hosted most of the pottery from ceramics 1 and 2 classes. The project for the ceramics class was to create three pieces which represent a particular culture. In addition to this table there were also glass displays hosting pottery. On the sides of the room is where pieces from the rest of the classes were shown. Ryan Siddiq, a senior said, “It is quite incredible that students at our schools are so talented that they are able to put on an art gallery in the middle of our campus.”

The drawing and painting class did a project where they used an authentic vintage map of their choosing and drew animals, locations, food, landmarks, plants and other things relating to their place. Art and Design class did a similar project where they chose a location and put paper cutouts of animals, locations, food and other things relating to their location. Lastly, there were a few face portraits that were done by the AP Studio Art students.

Kathy Holcombe, the art teacher in charge of all the classes represented said, “100% of our students were invited to contribute and I am very very proud of all of our students’ efforts.”
