Music’s effect on students

Sammy Enriquez
Examples of some popular headphone options that are often used to listen to music.

Music is a huge part of many people’s  lives. For some, music is a way to express themselves, it can put them in a better mood, it can be a creative outlet, etc. Many students find themselves listening to music very often, even during school hours. If you take a look around campus you’ll often see students with their headphones in while walking around, and sometimes during class as well. Multiple studies show that listening to music can have very powerful and positive psychological effects and can increase dopamine levels. Music is something that can influence people’s thoughts and feelings in more ways than one. It can even lessen the impact of things like depression and anxiety. Many peoples’ lives would be extremely different without the access to music, whether that be creating it or listening to it.

When interviewed, the majority of students said that they listen to music on the daily. Many also said that the music they listen to can have an affect on their mood. Junior Cameron Michel said, “Sad music makes me blue, happy music uplifts me.”

Below is a playlist compiled of some of our students’ favorite songs:

Anahi Oheda – Hold on, We’re going Home – Drake

Aaron Ontiveros – Gimme the Loot- The Notorious B.I.G,

Cameron Michel – Pool – Paramore

Ryan Henderson – 24/7/365 – Surfaces

Rashi Khandare – The Morning – The Weeknd

Rogelio Sanchez – Sad But True – Metallica

Reese Barnard – Feather – Sabrina Carpenter

John Conway – Glamour Profession – Steely Dan

Adrian Quezada – On & Off- Modern Color

Natalie TP – A Fool’s Expedition- The garden

Nate Garza – Gucci Gang – Lil Pump

Hi, my name is Sammy Enriquez! I am currently a junior and graduating in 2025. This is my first year in journalism but so far I really enjoy being able to get more involved with the school. Some things I love are my dog, listening to music, being creative, and spending time with my friends and family. After high school I plan to attend a college here in California and pursue my passions.
