Music is a huge part of many people’s lives. For some, music is a way to express themselves, it can put them in a better mood, it can be a creative outlet, etc. Many students find themselves listening to music very often, even during school hours. If you take a look around campus you’ll often see students with their headphones in while walking around, and sometimes during class as well. Multiple studies show that listening to music can have very powerful and positive psychological effects and can increase dopamine levels. Music is something that can influence people’s thoughts and feelings in more ways than one. It can even lessen the impact of things like depression and anxiety. Many peoples’ lives would be extremely different without the access to music, whether that be creating it or listening to it.
When interviewed, the majority of students said that they listen to music on the daily. Many also said that the music they listen to can have an affect on their mood. Junior Cameron Michel said, “Sad music makes me blue, happy music uplifts me.”
