Students enjoying their night on the dance floor at Homecoming 2022. This year should be even better!

Homecoming 2023 is just around the corner and Highlanders are preparing to show up in style. It is now officially that time of year when students begin looking for their fashionable dresses and sharp suits that go with the Magic Kingdom theme of our dance. It is a mystery if anyone will actually dress up as a princess or prince, but everyone can agree that they want to look their best for their special date and friends!

There is no denying that it’s challenging to locate the perfect outfit for this important occasion when browsing through various clothing websites and wandering through large, crowded stores. Junior Lexie May remarked, “I recommend wearing a short dress and spaghetti straps for girls who are still shopping,” which has frequently been an ongoing fashion statement at our school dances. May added, “My best spots have been Windsor, Macy’s, Lucy in the Sky, Princess Polly, and Cozy Fox!”  Given that several other girls, like junior Christian Lim and junior Sofia Bullard, also agreed that those were wonderful places to shop, it is no secret that May knows the go-to dress stores in town.

As for our Highlander guys, they are always looking their best when it comes to their stylish suit and ties and button up shirts. A lot of them like to wear ties and shirts that match their date’s outfit for photos, which looks great on Instagram. Some even like to wear nice shoes like Jordan’s that match their shirts if they don’t have someone else to go with them. Senior ROTC member Cyel Botones said, “I don’t like wasting money on a new suit every year, so I usually just wear the same hand-me-down from my dad.” Many guys also probably don’t like to waste hundreds of dollars on suits for dances, so it is not rare for most to use hand-me-downs. As for others who don’t have clothes to borrow from family members, there are still lots of students, including senior Julian Gonzales, who find alternatives. “Jos. A. Bank is a good place to shop online if you’re looking for something cheap because they have lots of sales,” Gonzales said. “They have button-up shirts that are like $30, which could always be a good enough outfit for homecoming!”

Olivia Cleary, Reporter
My name is Olivia and I am currently in my junior year of high school. Journalism has consistently sparked my interest since I began school at Royal because not only have I heard positive things about the teacher and students, but I believe that it would also help me enhance my reading and writing skills. Since I was a child, I have enjoyed reading books and creating my own short stories, which is a career I wouldn’t mind doing after graduation. I want to follow in my family member’s footsteps in having a job in literary writing.
