This New Year 2024, the government changed some laws which will affect the people living in California. One law affecting working people is section SB 616 which is expanding the available sick days from three to five. Junior Andrew Mendoza said, “I think that it would help out a lot just so I don’t have to worry too much about using a sick day.”
Something that has become a problem lately is the use of opioids and people struggling to fight its addiction. This is why under section AB 663 it allows for more mobile pharmacies to be created in communities across the state and enables them to dispense treatment medications for opioid use disorder.
Since housing in California is getting out of control and the prices are probably the highest it has ever been they are also making laws to help combat that. Section SB 423 requires local governments that are failing to meet state housing planning goals to streamline affordable housing projects. This will increase affordable housing throughout the state in uncooperative cities.
The government is also talking about raising awareness for mental health and helping out in that field. Under section SB 1338 the law authorizes petitioners such as family members or first responders to request court-ordered treatment and services for those with untreated schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. Junior Rafael Nunez said, “I think it’s a good thing they are paying more attention to it.” These are just some of the new changes to California during 2024.
