Girls flag football set the tone in the Simi Valley and Royal rivalry. They won in a stunning 30-0 victory on August 25. But Royal’s varsity football team couldn’t hold up the hype as they unfortunately lost 62-7 against Simi Valley on September 1. This tied the football series between Royal and Simi Valley in 2023.
The Royal Simi Valley rivalry goes all the way back to the 1960s where both Royal and Simi Valley high schools were built. A former Simi Valley student and now campus supervisor at Royal, Tera Burton said, “The rivalry between Royal and Simi means friendly competition.” The conflict was brewed from the two schools being across town from each other. Senior Brendon Duffy said, “The Rivalry Between Royal and Simi Valley breeds good competition and helps us support school spirit.” Just like the Royal and Simi Valley rivalry, there are other big rivalries in sports such as the “Battle of L.A”. This is for the rivalry between UCLA and USC. But, the battle of L.A’s rivalry is much more serious because both schools have to cover and guard the main monuments in fear of the rivals defacing them.
