A bright future

Being a new student at any grade is difficult, it brings feelings of nervousness, excitement, and fear. Every school has a goal of being welcoming and accepting of everyone who attends. We want students to feel comfortable and safe attending school and accept feedback of any kind to make the school better. This year is senior Destini Davis’  first year at our school. She described her first week experience at Royal as different and awkward, but it was a fun new experience. She expected and prepared herself to be alone the majority of the time, but that was not the case. She was able to make class connections and made a few friends.

The American Sign Language class showed Destini that she has the ability to learn and understand a completely different language. “If there was one thing I could change about this school it would be having icebreaker activities on the first day of school. I felt like the teachers assumed everyone knew each other but in reality some of us felt alone. Ice breakers would be a good way to allow people to find similar interests and connect in some way.” New students tend to be more reserved and less likely to talk to other students. She expressed that she does not really talk unless she is being talked to. Everyone feels negative and positive emotions throughout their high school experience, but it is important to stay positive and stay true to yourself.

Freshman Abigail Zepeda  expressed that her experience at Royal so far has been good and easy to adjust to. “I had the expectation that school would be difficult to adjust to and have hard assignments and tests. It was the complete opposite, I find Royal to be an easily adjustable and maintainable amount of work and tests.” Many students everywhere stress and overthink how their high school experience will be, with a majority of the time students think of the worst when they think about their future at school.

Royal High School is easily adjustable, welcoming, accepting, and overall positive. Every student will have their highs and lows throughout their high school experience but it is important to remember that this is your preparation for life. Our school prepares students for their bright future.
