When our last period bell rang on Friday, March 22, students all over campus were ecstatic to be finally on Spring Break. So many of us have been waiting a long time to sit back and relax, after a very long period of testing for the final quarter. It was a time for fun and enjoyment, which was exactly what these kids did with their fun Spring Break plans!

Seniors Breeanne Hutchings and Maddy Sabbe made plans to go to Six Flags Magic Mountain during their first day off from school. Both girls spent an eventful afternoon riding on extreme rollercoasters, such as Batman: The Ride, Goliath, and Lex Luther Drop of Doom. Each ride had extreme twists, turns, and drops, which left the girls screaming and smiling in excitement. “Even though I’m usually scared of big rollercoasters, the experience alone was so fun,” said Maddy Sabbe with a huge grin. “I want to go to Six Flags again for Scream Break,” said Breeanne Hutchings. From sitting at desks all day to speeding high miles per hour on gigantic rides, both girls were thrilled to have a change of environment.

As for our sophomores Annette Garcia and Emma Provenzenco, they spent their breaks hitting up many beaches in SoCal. Some of these beaches were Carpinteria Beach, Laguna Beach, Santa Monica State Beach, and Zuma Beach. They had a nice and relaxing time in paradise as they tanned in the warm sand, walked on the shore looking for sea shells, and rode on their boogie boards in the cold clear water. “It felt like we were on summer break already,” said Emma Provenzenco. “We also got to check out cool spots in the nearby towns, like this cute ice cream place that served waffles shaped like fish,” added Annette Garcia.

As many can probably tell, our students had a memorable time during their 2024 Spring Break. Getting their excitement out on exhilarating rides and loosening up at the beach, these kids are ready to come back to school. With just two months left, these fun outdoor activities can be celebrated longer once summer vacation begins.

My name is Olivia and I am currently in my junior year of high school. Journalism has consistently sparked my interest since I began school at Royal because not only have I heard positive things about the teacher and students, but I believe that it would also help me enhance my reading and writing skills. Since I was a child, I have enjoyed reading books and creating my own short stories, which is a career I wouldn’t mind doing after graduation. I want to follow in my family member’s footsteps in having a job in literary writing.
