The High School Alliance of Future Physicians (HSAFP) is a national organization with a mission to, “revolutionize pre-medical education by equipping high school students with leadership and teamwork.” At the Kingdom, HSAFP works to guide Highlanders toward careers in healthcare; whether that means becoming a doctor, nurse, or medical technician.
“Our group focuses mostly on helping students find their pathway into healthcare,” said senior and Club President Karen Truong, “Whether that goal is nursing, doctors, or even assistant technicians, or introducing health/medical concepts.”
HSAFP is open to Highlanders of all grades with no prior requirements. The club provides a variety of engaging activities, from anatomy lessons to field trips, this year, the Highlanders visited a Mental Health Conference and the Simi Institute for Careers & Technology to explore the EMT and phlebotomy training. “Last year we participated in Stop the Bleed with the US Army and a panel with a neuroscience post-grad student. They showed us how to draw blood, stop bleeding, and handle medical emergencies,” shared Truong.
Though Truong is graduating this year, she is confident in the club’s future. “I know the group taking on the club after me has great plans of becoming more involved in the community and trying to get some assistance in getting volunteer opportunities and fundraisers planned.”
HSAFP continues to inspire and support Highlanders passionate about healthcare. With hands-on experiences, academic guidance, and a strong sense of community, the club prepares members for future success.
