On May 5 all anatomy students got to experience something very calming and unique. A sound bath! It took place in Mrs. Goldman’s room 8-11. The session was led by sound bath instructor Jackie Avena Maritza Martinez. Students laid on yoga mats on the floor with the lights off while relaxing music and sounds filled the room.
A sound bath is a peaceful experience where sounds from different instruments wash over you. Instruments like crystal singing bowls, metal bowls, chimes, and gongs are used to make vibrations that help the body feel calm. These sounds can affect the brain and help people feel less stressed. Sometimes, it’s so relaxing that students fall asleep!
Instructor Jackie Avena Maritza Martinez shared, “Sound baths are a way to let your body and mind rest without needing to do anything. It’s so beautiful to see students just relax and be present.” Goldman, who teaches anatomy, explained why sound baths are connected to what students are learning. “Our bodies are over 70% water, so sound vibrations can actually travel through us and affect how we feel,” she said. Junior Sharon Mansur, one of the students in the class, said, “At first I didn’t know what to expect, but the sounds were so soothing I almost forgot I was at school. It made me feel super super calm.”
This sound bath was more than just peaceful, it helped students understand how sound and science connect. It also gave everyone a chance to take a break from stress and focus on how their body responds to sound. It was a special way to bring science to life while helping students feel better at the same time.
