Eid al-Fitr is an important Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, a month dedicated to fasting, prayer, and self-reflection. In 2025, Eid will be celebrated starting on the evening of March 31 and ending on April 3rd. The holiday is a time for Muslims around the world to break their fast, enjoy special meals, and spend time with family and friends. The holiday is often referred to as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” because it celebrates the completion of a month of fasting. Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, refraining from any food or drinks. After a month, Eid becomes a day of joy and gratitude.
Sophomore Deema MohamedTaha, who celebrates Eid, shared, “Eid is a time for us to celebrate with family. After fasting for a month, we get to enjoy good food and spend time with everyone. It’s honestly the best part of Ramadan for me.” While Eid is a significant holiday for Muslims, not everyone celebrates it. Sophomore Karissa Nelson, who doesn’t celebrate Eid, explained, “I think it’s awesome how meaningful it is for people who celebrate. I love seeing how close they are with their families, and how everyone comes together. It’s a time for love and giving.” For others, like Sophomore Juliana Sanchez, Eid is a holiday they’ve heard about but don’t fully understand. “I don’t know much about Eid, but it seems like such a cool tradition,” Sanchez said. Senior Ashley Guzman said, “I’ve always heard about Eid, but I never really knew what it involved but it’s nice to see how much it means to people.” Senior Dylan Aparicio, who is also curious about the holiday, mentioned, “It’s cool that Eid is this big celebration.”
As for my own celebration of Eid, it is a family-centered day. We gather for prayers in the morning and then enjoy a big meal together. The food is always the highlight, and lots of sweets. We also make sure to donate to those who need help, making it a day full of giving. Eid is more than just a holiday, it’s a time of renewal and community. Whether you celebrate it or not, it’s easy to see why it’s such an important day for millions around the world.
