The Multicultural fashion fair took place on Tuesday, March 11, during lunch at the MPR. The fair celebrated diverse cultures through traditional clothing from around the world.
Senior and President of Diversity and Equity of ASB, Karen Truong, began the fair by introducing the event. As Highlanders walked down the stage, they explained what country they represented, the importance of their clothing and where the traditional clothing is worn. Senior Miranda Gutierrez performed a traditional dance from the Mexican state, Jalisco, called Folklorico.
Seniors, Gutierrez represented Jalisco, Truong represented Thailand, Angel Altamirano represented Mexico, Moriah Beard represented Ghana, and Vanessa Perez represented Italy. Juniors Bella DeLeon introduced Maria Murariu to represent Romania. Sophomores Mya-Lynn Taing represented Cambodia, and Emily Axelrad represented Britain. Freshman Emma Balderas represented Mexico.
The event highlighted cultural diversity at the kingdom, allowing students to share their heritage. This fair is important because it celebrates diversity and educates highlanders about other cultures. By showcasing traditional clothing from different countries, students gain a deeper appreciation of various cultures and their significance.
The Kingdom organizes this event annually to promote inclusivity and respect for different backgrounds, allowing students to embrace and share their heritage with pride.
