The Hispanic Heritage Club is a place where students can learn, have fun, and celebrate Hispanic culture. The club meets during lunch from 12:10 to 12:45 p.m. in Room 6-18, Ms Paola Gonzalez’s classroom, where members talk about traditions, important figures, and how Hispanic culture has shaped the world.
At a recent meeting, students shared fun facts about Hispanic heritage. They learned about leaders like Dolores Huerta, who fought for farmworkers’ rights, and Celia Cruz, the Queen of Salsa, who changed Latin music forever. They also talked about how Hispanic culture influences everyday life, from food and music to common Spanish words used in English.
Senior Ashley Guzman loves the club’s energy. “It’s honestly such a vibe,” she said. “We get to rep[resent] our culture, have fun, and actually learn things they don’t always teach in school.”
For sophomore Juliana Sanchez, joining the club has been a great experience. “I didn’t even know how much Hispanic culture influences everyday life,” she said, “So many words in English come from Spanish, and even foods we think are American have roots in Hispanic countries.”
With more students joining each week, the Hispanic Heritage Club continues to be a fun and welcoming place to learn and celebrate culture. It not only provides a space for students to connect with their heritage but also fosters a deeper understanding of the contributions and influence Hispanic culture has had on the world. As the club grows, it encourages students to share their own stories and experiences, creating a vibrant community where everyone can appreciate the richness and diversity of Hispanic traditions. Whether through music, food, history, or language, the club offers a chance to celebrate and honor the lasting impact Hispanic culture has had in shaping our world today.
