Our recent school blood drive was a huge success, it was organized as a CSI project by junior Jordan Downey and senior Mikayla Lev. The event which was held in the MPR from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. They had filled all appointment slots with 69 donors plus additional walk-ins.
Downey, one of the event organizers, shared her motivation behind the project, “I wanted to help the community, and this felt like a good way to reach a lot of people really easily.” Lev also added on emphasizing the event’s impact, “It brings the school together with everyone helping save lives.”
Before the blood drive, Downey and Lev talked with an American Red Cross representative to carefully plan and set up the event. Their hard work paid off as many students and parents stepped up to donate and make a difference.
For many this was their first time giving blood. Senior Beatriz Ceballos admitted, “I was a little nervous about donating blood for the first time, but overall it was pretty good experience, I got some snacks here.” Ceballos also said, “The reason why I wanted to give blood was because there is a first time for everything, and because of this experience, I feel that I would like to donate blood for the rest of my life.”
Senior Natalia Rodriguez also had a positive experience and said, “I really enjoyed the experience, it was very relaxing and everyone was super nice.”
There was so much participation this year, making a meaningful impact on both students and the community.
