On Wednesday, February 12, a select few of cadets in AFJROTC were taken to the Ronald Reagan Library to listen to the annual Medal Of Honor Forum, and this years’ recipients talk about their stories of courage and sacrifice. The AFJROTC cadets who attended this event heard from Medal Of Honor recipients Staff Sergeant Clinton Romesha, and Spc.5 Dwight Birdwell. Freshmen Isabella Zaghrout shared her thoughts about the event, and stated, “The event was really good and I learned a lot from the speakers about their time in the military and how they got the Medal Of Honor.”
The Medal Of Honor is the highest award any person can get for serving in the military, and only 3,500 military personnel have received this award, and only 100 recipients are alive today. Birdwell talked about his time in Vietnam with his time during the war and how he stepped up as a soldier and became the first soldier to do a Tet offensive in Vietnam. Romesha talked about how he received the Medal of Honor from former president Barack Obama, and how he led the charge to defeat the combat outpost Keating in Afghanistan.
Sophomore Jonathan CapuchinoFrias said, “The guest speakers were great and they had a lot of detail about their stories.” Overall, all of the cadets liked the event and were very excited to go there and learn about the stories from the military and getting the Medal Of Honor, and how they got it from their courageous effort.
