Whether you like playing, or just watching from the sidelines, basketball is something that many people can enjoy. This includes the girls’ varsity team, who played against Trinity Classical Academy on January 15, from 7-9:30 p.m., in the gym. Games are a chance to show family and friends what they have learned throughout their time in the sport, and the team spared no effort in doing just that.
The Highlanders got the first point, but unfortunately, Trinity quickly caught up and surpassed them. The game was a loss, 29-80, but the team tried their best and continued to play no matter what. Sophomore Izzy Owens, Point Guard, shared what she thought her team did best in the game, “I think the biggest thing was communication in the team, and working together.” This was a big strength for the Highlanders, passing the ball and making sure everyone got to play.
Head Coach, Mr. Matt DiConti, had this to say about the varsity team’s biggest strength, “Resilience. Even if they are losing by, like, 30 or 40, they don’t quit. They continue to fight.” This was very apparent in the game, where they played their hardest until the last buzzer. Trinity Classical Academy has had a very good performance throughout the season, winning now 16 games out of 19. The Royal Varsity team was disappointed in the loss, but looks forward to future triumphs.
