Every donation counts, no matter how big or small. This holiday season, many helped those in need by donating to the canned food drive. As a community, we spread holiday cheer by making sure no one has to worry about their next meal. Together we can fight hunger one can at a time.
Did you have extra cans lying around? Well, a small donation can make a big impact! The canned food drive ran from December 2 to 13. Students brought cans or any nonperishables to their 4th period class and there was a bag for you to put the food in. The 4th-period class with the most donations received their pizza party! Anatomy teacher, Zina Goldman said, “This time of the year is rough, especially with the upcoming holiday. So, why not donate and make someone’s life a little easier? I’m also competitive so bring all the cans you’ve got and let’s win this!”
All donations from the canned food drive went to Ventura County Food Share. Some things you were able to donate were pasta, beans, nuts, and any other non-perishables. Certain foods were worth more points such as canned protein (chicken, tuna, ham, and beef), and bags of rice or pasta which were all worth three points. Ramen, peanut butter, cereals, canned soup, dried beans, and canned fruit or vegetables were each worth one point. Junior Emily Whetzel said, “I’ll probably donate some ramen since I have a ton in my kitchen.”
