On Saturday morning, October 26, sophomores and juniors met outside of the MPR, to take the dreaded PSAT. Many students arrived without any practice, to track where they are and where they should progress when it comes to the real SAT. This experience allowed students to get a taste of what the true test would look like, while also taking it easy and having no worries about their score, pass or fail.
Students prepared for the PSAT a month in advance, with a $20 fee and information about what to bring and what to expect. The test started with a slight delay, but ended strong regardless. Monitor of the test, Assistant Principal Reina Zapata shares her experience watching the students work hard for their future. Zapata said, “I believe that the PSAT went well. We are trying to work through the bugs of having a test completely digital. Mostly working on ensuring students are able to charge their computers during the test with minimal distractions.”
When asked about why the PSAT should be taken, and the importance of it, Zapata shared, “The PSAT is important because if you score well, colleges will come looking for you. It can qualify you for the National Merit Scholarship and other scholarships. It can also let you know what you need to work on in order to score higher on the SAT.” This shows that the PSAT truly was important, and regardless of the score, every student showed true dedication for their craft, only making them shine more.
