On Wednesday, October 9, students, teachers, and staff wore orange to show their support for Unity Day, which was to stand against bullying. The school was filled with people in orange shirts, skirts, and accessories, symbolizing our collective commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for everyone. The entire Simi Valley School District celebrated Unity Day throughout all the schools, not just within the Highlanders.
Unity Day is more than just a symbolic gesture, by wearing orange, we pledge to stand against bullying and support those affected by it. Unity Day is important because it raises awareness about bullying in our community and it informs people about how to help someone who is being bullied or how to prevent it. Senior Jenna Kaila said, “I think it’s important because it brings everyone together and we can agree on a common issue, which is bullying here.”
For anyone who is a victim of bullying in The Kingdom, you can always go to any school faculty member or a trusted adult who will help. Some other ways to reach out for help are available on the backs of every student’s school ID. Bullying should never be tolerated, and it is now the student’s mission to speak out if you see bullying in effect or if one is a victim of one.
