The most anticipated day for the Highlanders arrived, the home rivalry game on Friday, September 6, against Simi Valley High School Pioneers. Though trials and tribulations occurred occasionally throughout this game, nonetheless, students still have blooming pride to be Highlanders. The game started off with a delay, due to the extreme weather, but promptly at 7:30 p.m., the Pioneers and Highlanders were prepared for the rival battle.
As the game started, Highlanders were all decked out in green and gold, all warmed up in the student section for an exciting game. A moment of silence took place for the beloved and forever member of Royal, Dylan Jones. Before you knew it, the game started with a bang. Though the Pioneers took over the game, the Highlanders did give a good fight, with the student section’s cheers and their echoes being heard all about campus. Students were able to get food and refreshments, however separately from the Simi Valley High School crowd this year, to prevent any conflicts.
By the time it was third quarter, junior Kai Taylor took a terrible fall, but he was honored for his hard work for the Highlander team and the entire varsity team kneeled for him and his dedication. The student section all sat down in silence as well until clearance was given that he was safe. As soon as he left, everyone cheered for him and his effort and perseverance, swelling all the Highlander’s hearts with pride. And though we lost once again to the Pioneers, everyone was proud to be a Highlander that night. Go Highlanders!
