As the 2024 school year comes to a close, the graduating class celebrated this by attending the Senior Sunset, where seniors enjoyed complimentary snacks and beverages. The attendees came prepared with picnic blankets, lawn chairs, etc. Some even brought their own food, as various pizza boxes and fast food bags could be spotted on the east field. Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of litter left behind which was a bit annoying due to the abundance of trash cans throughout the field. For the betterment of every student and staff, please pick up your trash. A twenty foot walk from your spot to a trash can would not hurt you.
The event started a few hours before the sun began setting to give time for seniors to pick up their yearbooks, and many minutes were spent signing the yearbooks of peers. Another way seniors passed time was the playing of cards, yard games, and board games. Senior Henry Beltran (and self proclaimed UNO expert) said, “I’m literally unstoppable against these guys.”
Although, the event did not end at sundown. In fact, the sunset was the halfway point of the event. School staff played a movie at around 8 p.m. which to the surprise of many was the third installment of High School Musical.
Senior Sean Vertuno said, “We should have more events like this. Everyone is just chilled out and vibing to the music and stuff. It’s not too loud, not too crazy, everyone’s doing their own thing, playing their own games, y’know?”
Even though many seniors showed up just to grab their yearbooks and leave, those who stayed until the end had a relaxing time with their fellow classmates. Senior De’Anna Brewer said, “I really don’t like High School Musical but it was a really chill time.”
The sun set upon the 2024 school year and even though it marks the end of this chapter, the sun always comes up after it sets. The journey at Royal has ended for seniors, but it is only the beginning of their journey after.
