PTSA member Kathy Riggs came to speak at a Brown Bag Lunch in the CSI room on Thursday, April 11. There were demonstrations for future drivers, including some tricks students could use when beginning to drive. These tips could save yourself money and your car. The first thing Riggs showed us was was how to check if your tires if they are properly inflated. A big benefits to having properly inflated tires are that it prolongs the life of your tires, saving you money on new tires. Another benefit is getting better gas mileage for your car, saving you money on today’s gas prices which are at an all time high.
Riggs showed us how to check tire pressure in several ways. One way was called the penny method which is where you put a penny in your tire and not all of Lincolns head is covered your tires are fine, but if you cannot see his head that means your tires are worn out. Another way to check tire pressure was by using an electric tire pressure checker, you just put the little needle in the tire and it tells you if they are okay. One of the tricks she explained was getting free air and water in the gas station. All you have to do is go inside and ask the clerk to turn on the air for you and he turns it on with a flip of a switch. The way you check what tire pressure you should have is by checking the driver’s door jam.
Riggs did an amazing job at explaining what future drivers could do to save their cars and their money.
