The wood shop class called Wood Design is taught by teacher Mr. James Sorenson, and it is a pathway class that teaches you life skills. Students learn such things as how to measure on rulers, working with both hand and electric tools, how to handle the tools, and how to build things safely. So far this semester the students have been learning about all the tools to use them.
The first project, The Craftsman’s Box is what students are currently building. They must draw, scale their project, cut, and sand. Sorenson has been teaching this class for 22 years. He grew up working with wood and is happy to teach his students. James Sorenson said, “This is perhaps one of the most useful classes in high school.” So many students enjoy this class, junior Adrian Mendez said, “I’m glad I picked this class.” Throughout the year students will also be making bowls, salad tongs, and a Christmas tree.
