Tik Tok Wednesday
If you’ve been on Tik Tok recently, then you’ve probably seen the kooky Wednesday dance on Tik Tok trend. The trend is based on Netflix’s new hit series Wednesday. The series is a dark, compelling, murder mystery told brilliantly through Burton’s gothic aesthetic and style. Wednesday, a 16-year-old is obsessed with death and a little too much on the dark side. Wednesday is sent to Nevermore Academy for causing mischief at other schools. While attending Nevermore Academy, Wednesday attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, who attempts to solve a monster mystery at her school, all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.
The series stars Jenna Ortega as the iconic Wednesday Addams, Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, Percy Hynes White as Xavier Thorpe, Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin, Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay, Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolus, Gwendoline Christie as Larissa Weems, Christina Ricci the original Wednesday Addams also appears in the series as Ms. Thornhill, as well as Catherine Zeta-Jones portraying Morticia Addams, and Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams.
Chemistry teacher Mr. Acab said after watching the show, “It’s a very well-written and entertaining show, I loved it, and I wish Wednesday was my own daughter. She doesn’t care about what anyone thinks about her, she’s a strong independent girl, and she kicks butt.”
Cast member Jenna Ortega had to contribute a lot to her character not only having to cut her own hair she had to learn how to play the cello, learn to fence, learn to speak german, and adjust her posture for the emotionless character. Ortega did one take without blinking and director Tim Burton was so enamored with the result that he told Ortega not to blink anymore when playing Wednesday. Even though the actors all had some struggles playing their characters they all bonded over their worries about moving to Romania for 8 months. The show, just two weeks after its debut on Netflix, is now one of the streamer’s most popular series of all time. With 341.23 million hours viewed in its first week since it premiered on November 23, the series is already the number three most-watched English-language TV title in Netflix history. According to Netflix, the show has been viewed by more than 50 million households.
