This past Saturday, February 22, our track and field distance team competed in the annual Westlake Distance Carnival at Westlake High School. Our sophomores delivering strong performances across events.
Sophomore Madison Boucher secured 1st place overall in the women’s 800 meters with a speedy time of 2:23.06. She also claimed 3rd place overall in the 1600 meters, finishing with a time of 5:25.59.
Sophomore Lauren Villafaña also secured 5th place overall in the women’s 3200 meters with a time of 14:19.81. She continued her fight and placed 3rd in her heat for the 800 meters, clocking in at 2:43.82. When asked about her performance Villafaña said, “I think I did pretty well this Saturday. I definitely didn’t expect a medal in the 3200 meters, so that was a nice surprise. I also got a huge PR in the 800 meters.” When asked what she enjoyed most about the event, she added, “I like being able to bond more with my teammates from cross country and meet long-distance runners from other schools.”
Sophomore Angela Busco also did a spectacular job in the 800 meters, placing 2nd in her heat with a time of 2:43.29.
