On Wednesday, August 28, starting at 6 p.m. girls Flag Football played their first game of the season away against the Simi Valley High School Pioneers. The junior varsity team beat Simi with a score of 18-14. And the varsity team demolished the Pioneers with a score of 39-0.
When asked about the secret to their success, the answer was their close-knit bond. With the tragic passing of Royal baseball player, Dylan Jones, the team rallied together for their teammate Mikaela Jones. “We all wear blue on our wrist for every game and a lot of people wear blue glitter on their face to show support,” said junior Natasha Paloian, varsity quarterback out on injury. Paloian also credits the coaches for their bond, she said, “Our head coach Sramek, he always makes an effort to make a very non toxic environment.”
With such great team chemistry and dedication from all the players, no doubt the team will make it far. Sophomore, wide receiver, and rusher Madeline Triplett predicts, “We are going to win, I’ve got a good feeling about this. I predict we are going to go far this season and have a great time.”
