Senior Liliana “Lily” Coleman and Junior Hannah Zeman are in the marching band this year, among other bands.
Coleman plays bass clarinet in wind symphony and marching band while Zeman, plays cello, bass and percussion in wind symphony, wind ensemble and marching band. With every band class, they have to practice for two hours. Zeman, in three band classes, spent many hours practicing both in classes and after school.
The marching band often performs during varsity football games. The marching band does not go to all the away games, but they do go to some of them. “We only go to away games if it’s at Simi,” Coleman said about away games.
Marching band is made up of a tight-knit group of people, anyone from the senior that’s been there the longest all the way down to the brand new freshman. “I like the dynamic of marching band. We focus on cooperation and we’re like a family,” Zeman said concerning the marching band. Both Coleman and Zeman have been in band for a long time. Coleman has been in band since she was a freshman, though she had to do it over Zoom. Zeman has been doing band since the sixth grade and joined marching band as a freshman.
