Boys’ water polo won!!! On August 23 we played Thousand Oaks and ended up winning our first game of the season 19-12 at home. There was great play by both sides. Head coach Ramiro Saldain and Assistant coach Ignacio Saldain coached the highlanders to the win. Assistant coach Saldain said, “I joined water polo three years ago as an assistant coach for both boys and girls teams because I wanted to help my brother (head coach Ramiro Saldain). Both Ramiro and I played water polo at Royal and we love the sport and wanted to give back to the program that gave us so much when we were in high school in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. We have tremendous student athletes who love to work hard and improve so it’s been such an immense pleasure to serve these kids.”
They showed both amazing hustle and play. In this game against Thousand Oaks junior Nico Rosado scored 6 goals and had 3 assists. Senior captain Tommy Shea scored 5 goals and had 9 steals. Junior lefty sensation James Coleman had a few goals and played offensive well sophomore goalie phenomenon Connor Pagels had several saves and blocks in an amazing performance by all Highlanders. Coleman was asked what game he was looking forward towards most and said, “The game against Simi Valley High School because it is always hyped up.”
