Wednesday, March 19, was a fun day for IB Literature students! At 9:15 a.m. students went to the front of the school to wait for the buses to Moorpark College Theater and Arts. They were invited to watch the play Twelfth Night, which combines love, confusion, mistaken identities, and joyful discovery all in one production! The play was set in the roaring 1920’s and featured settings, costumes, music and dances from the era.
The play was about two twins named Sebastian and Viola. They survive a shipwreck but don’t know that the other is alive. Viola needs to hide her identity and disguises as a young man named Cesario. She has to go into service of Count Orsino of Illyria. Orsino orders “Cesario” to get along and woo Lady Olivia. Things go as planned and Olivia falls in love with Cesario, but Viola also falls in love with someone else. The comedy begins to fall in when Olivia’s drunk kinsman, Sir Toby Belch, and his companion, Sir Andrew Aguecheek vow to get revenge on Olivia’s steward, Malvolio. Where is Sebastian?
Students and teachers both enjoyed the play. Senior Gustavo Nieto said, “I liked it. It was definitely different from the other plays we’ve seen” and teacher Kari Lev said, “I enjoyed it! I thought it was creative, funny, and the perfect amount of singing.” After the play students went to have lunch in the Moorpark Center and then returned back to school by 1:45 p.m.
