During lunch on November 4 and 5, the Royal CSI Program hosted a mock election by the 6th Building to promote civic engagement. Students of all grade levels had the opportunity to vote for the presidential candidates, other elected officials, and various propositions. When students vote even in a mock election, it allows them to foster a relationship with the importance of voting and having their voice heard. By establishing such a relationship it encourages students to continue to voice their opinions through voting in the long run. “Voting is important and I think it’s great that we are allowed to vote even if it is a mock election,” said sophomore Madison Boucher.
The results of the mock election are the following, Kamala Harris won the presidential election, for school board members; Mike James won District A, Kareem Jubran won District B, and Sofya Bagdasaryan won District C, as for Mayor incumbent Fred Thomas won with 59% of the votes, Julia Brownley for representative, and Adam Schiff for Senate. “I thought it was interesting how similar the results were to the actual election,” said sophomore Brianna Johnson. The mock election got every single elected official correct except for the presidential candidate, when compared to the actual election.
