Don’t forget your sunscreen and flip flops! IB Literature students in Mrs. Lev and Mrs. Fischer’s classes went on a field trip to the Ventura Beach. Both classes went on two buses and met at the front of the school at 8:45 a.m on Friday, October 11.
The field trip was fun yet informative. Students read chapters 30 and 31 in the novel, The Awakening by Kate Chopin, with a group of friends or solo. After reading the chapters, students had to complete two assignments and then turn them in to their teacher when finished. The beach is a huge symbol in the novel representing freedom and escape. Eddie Viramontes, a senior, said he, “Liked looking at the ocean,” while on the field trip. Parent chaperones were welcomed to the field trip to make sure all students were safe and on their best behavior.
When both students and teachers were done with the learning part of the field trip, everyone was invited to explore the beach in the designated areas, relax and sit on blankets, play volleyball, or purchase food in the restaurants on the pier. Senior Itzel Gandulia said her favorite part about being on the field trip was, “Walking on the peir.” For everyone’s safety, there was no swimming in the ocean.
