For the past week, Suicide Prevention presentations were held during every third period class to provide information and help for those who need it. The presentation was there to remind those who are struggling with depression or anxiety that they are not alone and there are people willing to help and support them.
Right when you walked into the MPR or other locations on campus, it was clear that this is an extremely important topic. Counselor Mrs. Aamina Hennings said, “I don’t mess around about this.” The presentation taught students some signs that someone might be struggling mentally, such as tiredness, isolating themselves from others, and eating less. Counselor, Ms. Jacqueline Becker added, “We are here to help you. You don’t need to struggle alone.”
The presentation also taught students about self-care and the benefits it can do to your mood. Some examples of self-care are bubble baths, laughing, spending time in nature, being with a pet, exercising, and more. Hennings then spoke to the crowd, “Just because you are having a lot of bad days, doesn’t mean every day for the rest of your life will be a bad day.” If you or someone you know is struggling mentally, please consider texting or calling the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. On the back of your school ID, there are also other ways to reach out for help.
