Many changes have been made since the beginning of the school year, and many different things are currently being implemented into the system and environment. Feminine products available in the girls’ bathroom has just been implemented this school year. These products were added due to the government, or specifically Congress, with laws specifically on October 8, 2021, AB-367, meaning ‘Assembly Bill’, which Governor Newsom signed. These products are tampons and napkins, originally known as pads, and will soon be stocked in the bathrooms on campus. All of the bathrooms will have these products provided for the students. These may also help students who can not afford these products.
“It would allow low-income girls feminine products available to them,” said school nurse Ms. Wendy Calderon, who was happy about the change, “We were very happy. We had to order them every year,” Calderon said. The District office during this time was also involved, at least in letting others know that this was happening. Not many people reacted to this change as possibly expected, such as a bigger reaction. Overall, these were added to help people who struggle with getting certain products and can help them in their financial situation.
