South Asian Cultural Association Club is built to embrace and celebrate the heritage and culture of Highlanders from South Asian countries. These countries include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and Maldives. The club meets every other Tuesday in room 8-15 during lunch.
President senior Lalit Kondra said, “The main goals of the South Asian Club are to celebrate, educate, and build community through South Asian culture.”
Open to Highlanders of all backgrounds, the club hosts events that highlight the diversity and richness of South Asian traditions. From the joyful chaos of Teen Holi, where highlanders take part in the colorful festival of colors, to the Multicultural Fair, where cultures across the school come together to perform and share, the club plays an active role in encouraging cross-cultural appreciation. Their South Asian Movie Night also brings Highlanders together, creating a space to connect over film and conversation. “We all get together and bond over a South Asian film,” Kondra shared, emphasizing the social and inclusive spirit of the club.
Beyond the celebrations, the club’s deeper purpose is to educate and promote empathy. “Learning about South Asian culture helps students appreciate diversity and break down stereotypes,” Kondra said. This exposure helps Highlanders become more inclusive, in school and outside, preparing them to engage with people of all cultures in a thoughtful and positive way.
