Each dancer choreographed a routine and spent months practicing with their partners during early 7 a.m. rehearsals. The result was a display of dedication, with a mix of exciting music mashups, costumes, tricks, and diverse dance styles.
This year’s show was an unexpected success, selling out in a matter of days, a first in the event’s history. The packed audience was treated to an evening of performances that showcased not only dancing but also bloopers.
The night featured multiple award categories to recognize standout performances:
- Best Choreography: Dancer Daisy Dicks and star Emily Shamon
- Show Stopper: Dancer Ivy Roessell and star Toby Ae
- Best Costume: Dancer Maiya Vallejo and star Talan Hernandez-Hamburger
- Judges’ Choice: Dancer Briana Mathias and star Isaiah Tillman
- Best Music Choice: Dancer Avery Misioweic and star Devon Ware
- Most Creative: Dancer Sophia Bullard and stars Nate Garza and Lexie May
- Most Entertaining: Dancer Kyla Janiszewski and star Cooper Dickson
- Best Group Dance: Dancers Makenna Hamilton, Adeena Cohn, Samantha Milligan, and Adelina Woodward with stars Jacob Maldonado, Leo Robles, Joey Decker, and Roman Proia
The panel of judges featured history teacher Mr. Habroun, current assistant dance team coach Jordyn Gapol, and former dance captain and Royal alumni Angelina Hemphill, who all brought their expertise and enthusiasm to the event.
Sophomore dancer Brieanna Johnson reflected on the experience and said, “I loved being able to choreograph my dance and teach it to my friend. I am so proud of her and how well she did.” Highlander star and freshman Jacob Maldonado shared his excitement, adding, “I enjoyed it. It was a lot more fun than I expected, and I also learned that I’m a good dancer.”
The evening was not just about the performance but also about the amazing dedication and time each student expressed in their dance. “Dancing with the Highlander Stars” once again proved to be a highlight of the school year, leaving the audience entertained and inspired.
