Mock trial rendition of the Canterbury Tales
The Pardoner’s Tale is one of The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer which tells the tale of three brothers who stumble upon gold on their quest for vengeance for their friend’s death- and are infiltrated with greed and evil. Seniors in Mrs. Beeby’s AP Literature and Composition class have been partaking in a mock trial of the case of People v Evil. Students were either lawyers, part of the jury, or on the side of the witnesses; The Old Man, the elder rioters, and the younger rioter. In this period the jury’s verdict was finding the defendant “the elder rioters” guilty on the charge of murder of their younger brother.
