Brown Bag lunch with Chavez
At the Brown Bag lunch in the CSI room, on September 20, Dr. Angelica K. Chavez spoke. Last year, Chavez helped with the promotion of Student Equity Equity through Ventura County. Chavez gave insight into her childhood. She had hard-working parents that came from Mexico. She talked about how her family went only to like third grade and dropped out of work because they needed money. She grew up with a harsh grandma that wanted her to do well in school. During her sophomore year, she got pregnant. She wasn’t known to be the kind of person to get pregnant in high school because she was in sports and involved with everything at school. When she had the baby she went to school like nothing happened and she got into sports again.
Chavez later got into the University of California Berkeley. Chavez said, “Everyone is different so why judge when you’re different from them.” This was a very meaningful statement from Chavez. Her main point is that everyone regardless of their situation can do great things. We are never in a position to judge anyone’s condition. |
