Highlander boys volleyball take on Simi High School in their second and final city rivalry match of the season. Our varsity is spotted on the left side of the court peppering to get warmed up to complete the three team win.

On Tuesday, April 4, highlander boys volleyball played the Simi Valley High School Pioneers team for the second and final time of the season. The boys games for the freshman and junior varsity teams consisted of sets of two unless one game was tied, which would result in a third set to be played. The varsity games are best of five, but our team was able to win in only three. Additionally, each set is played until 25 points, as long as the winner scores higher by at least two points. For example, if the score is 24-25, which did happen in a couple sets, the teams must continue to play until one team is leading over the losing team by two points.

The students were told to wear white to the event to support our team. The student section also joined in with the athletes on helping to cheer on the team that was actively playing. They used various chants, calls, and movements to keep the energy up both on and off the court. Freshman started the day of play at around 4 p.m. with an exciting first win for the school. Next up, junior varsity followed by playing a great game and winning both their sets against the Pioneers. Finally to end the night, varsity finished with a fantastic finale and achieved a fast dub in the minimum three sets. All three wins pulled off by highlander athletes resulted in a full sweep for “Royal Valley’s” boys volleyball 2023.
