Coachella Music Festival finally reopened
May 2, 2022
This year was Coachella’s first music festival since 2019 because of the pandemic, and it did not disappoint. The festival included two back-to-back weekends which happened on April 15-17 and April 22-24, and was held by the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
Each weekend had three days full of performances that started from noon and ended around midnight, and the lineups are the same for both weekends. This year’s headliners included Harry Styles, Billie Ellish, and Swedish House Mafia with the Weekend. Kanye West was originally supposed to be one of the headliners but was replaced to work on his mental health.
Other artists like Baby Keem, Lil Baby, Doja Cat, Joji, Louis the Child, and Disclosure also performed, along with over 100 different performers. Royal student Bella Woolfolk who also attended Weekend 2 of Coachella stated, “The festival will be a memory I will never forget, it was something I have never experienced before.”
Apollo graduate student and previous Royal student Ashley Brown stated, “I will be going back next year because the festival was unreal and one of the best things I have ever gone to. I hope to make Coachella a tradition in going every year.” The Coachella grounds had a Ferris wheel, water stations, food and drink stands, statues, and cool experiences you can check out, like an overhead dome and a rainbow tower you can walk through.
There were also a bunch of different stages that performers played at. The main stage was the Coachella stage, then there was the Outdoor theater, the Gobi, the Yuma, the Mojave, the Sonara, the Sahara, and the Do Lab. Each stage played different genres of music from mainstream performers to smaller artists. After waiting around three years for Coachella to reopen, around 125,000 people attended the event on both weekends.
Weekend 1 is mainly for influencers and celebrities who go for the photos, and Weekend 2 is more for the music and for having fun. During Megan Thee Stallion’s performance, a group of people behind us stated that they had attended both weekends, and one of the men with them said, “Weekend 2 was better than Weekend 1 because people are having fun, they are there for the music and don’t come just for the Instagram photos.”
