Kingdom Quarantine Tips

Although school is coming to an end soon, no one is sure yet how much longer our quarantine will continue. Staying at home for such a long time can get really boring, and it can feel like hours have gone by when in reality just a couple of minutes passed. If you don’t have any homework or chores to do, then starting a new hobby or picking back up an old one can cure your boredom. There are endless possibilities for things you can do from home, and the longer we need to stay at home, the more chances you will have to find new passions. To help the Royal Kingdom get through quarantine together, the Plaid Truth Staff has compiled a list of different things you can do at home to make your quarantine more enjoyable.

  • Binge a TV show that you’ve been wanting to watch or watch a movie with your family. You can also try chrome extensions like Netflix Party or Scener to watch movies virtually with your friends.
  • Read a book for fun. You can start a book club with your friends and family or even read a book that was turned into a movie and watch that movie after.
  • Text, call, Facetime, or Zoom some of your friends that you haven’t talked to as often since school has been virtual. It is a great thing to do if you’re feeling lonely, especially since everyone is feeling a bit lonely in times like this and could really use a friend to talk to.
  • Download Duolingo, a fun language learning app, and make a commitment to learn a new language or brush up on your skills with a language you are already learning in school.
  • If you’re into makeup or want to get into it, try practicing some looks you’ve never tried before. Doing your makeup over quarantine is a fun, risk-free way to practice your makeup skills without worrying about how they look.
  • Painting or drawing are great ways to relieve stress and enjoy yourself. There are endless possibilities when it comes to art and there are lots of instructional videos and lessons online to help teach you new styles. Making your own art at home takes time, but if you stick with it, it is an extremely enjoyable and rewarding hobby. There are many different mediums, such as acrylic and watercolor that you can try. Even if drawing isn’t for you, sometimes just doodling in a sketchbook can get you in a really creative mood.
  • Make some TikToks. TikTok is a great platform to show off your dancing skills, comedy, or artistic talents and possibly go viral. If creating content isn’t your speed, simply scroll through your For You page and watch other creators.
  • Go online shopping! Just because we’re all stuck inside doesn’t mean you can’t shop.  All of your favorite stores and clothing brands have online shops where you can order things and have them shipped directly to your house.
  • Learn how to bake or cook, or both. There are hundreds of thousands of recipes online for you to experiment with different cuisines and become a better chef or baker. Not only is it a fun hobby to do during quarantine, but your family will be thankful for the delicious food you create. A great activity to do with your new baking knowledge is a Facetime or Zoom bake-off! Challenge your friends to see who makes the best dessert with ingredients they can find at home. At the end of your baking, compare your dessert with your friends and decide who the winner is.
  • Learn how to play an instrument. If you have a guitar, piano, or another instrument around the house, pick it up, and try to learn it. There are tons of videos on Youtube that are great at teaching beginners how to play all different instruments, or just show you how to play your favorite songs.
  • Use Omegle or another video chat service where you can meet people across the country or even the world and have friendly conversations with them.
  • Jam out with your friends! Create a Spotify or other streaming service collaboration playlist and have a dance party! Find your favorite songs and set up the camera and go crazy! You can even try to learn some TikTok dances and see who does the best job!
  • Play a family board game. Board games are a great way to interact with your family while having some friendly competition
  • Finish a puzzle. Puzzles are a great, time-consuming activity to do with your family. They are fun and challenging because you can order puzzles of all different designs and difficulties.
  • Make a list of things that you want to do once quarantine is over. We don’t really know when the restrictions will be relaxed or when life will get back to normal, but creating a list of things to do once it is back normal is a great way to give yourself something to look forward to.

Sometimes the best thing for you to do is just relax and focus on yourself. Even though most of us would’ve thought school being canceled would ease the stress, staying at home can be stressful sometimes too. Hopefully, all these ideas of different things you can do for fun at home will help ease your quarantine blues.

Everyone here at the Plaid Truth hopes that you all stay safe and healthy! We know that the Royal Kingdom will get through this together soon enough. Remember for the wellbeing of our community stay at home as much as possible, and only go out for essential things. Also, if and when you go out, make sure you wear a mask and keep socially distanced.
